Alphonse de Lamartine

   
   

Alphonse Marie Louise Prat de Lamartine (born on Oct 21, 1790 in Macon; north of Lyon – died on Feb 28, 1869 in Paris) was a French poet, politician and nobility. He is the writer of “Le Lac” (The Lake) where he described the love shared by a couple from the point of a man.

He served as the Miniter of Foreign Affairs of France for almost 3 months between Feb 24, 1848 and May 11, 1848. His Eastern travels (Voyage en Orient) was published in 1835. It was during his visit to the Orient that he stopped by Istanbul and had fallen in love with the city. When he died in France in 1869, he was a literary wreck who was in poverty.
